BIO
My name is Jenna Dahlin. I am currently pursuing a BA from the University of California, Santa Barbara majoring in Political Science and minoring in Professional Writing.
Throughout my past 16 years of education, I've felt a natural gravitation toward writing and developed an ardent passion for journalism.
In high school, I spent many late nights at Paste-up and my free time in pursuit of stories. My time as a Copy and Sports Editor sparked inspiration and passion that I hadn't experienced in school before.

After four years of hard work on the Bark, I received recognition from the National Scholastic Press for a center-spread article on suicide and mental health issues in my community.
Since, I jumped at opportunities to refine and further explore my love of writing.
In the fall of 2022, I spent a semester at Sciences Po, Paris: a globally renowned institute for politics and social sciences.
It was an academic challenge, to say the least. Nonetheless, I grew as a person, student, and writer, pushing out several research papers and a thesis. My term thesis from Sciences Po examines the causes of right-wing populist movements in various countries.
In upper-division Political Science classes back at UCSB, I found a particular aptitude for crafting policy proposals and essays. Between American Foreign Policy, International Security, Political Philosophy, and Globalization and Politics, I enjoyed the process of creating and articulating solutions for real issues that affect people. I am particularly passionate about environmental subject matter -- and have since pursued an internship with the Environmental Defense Center, a non-profit law firm in Santa Barbara.
My goal as a soon-to-graduate college student, (and just a person entering adulthood) is to continue to follow paths that are exciting and enriching. More concretely, I hope to invest further in my love for writing. Looking at my immediate steps at UCSB, I aim to complete the Professional Writing Minor in Journalism. Looking down the road, however, I see myself living out early-adolescent dreams at a Medill writing program.
